Lithium-Ion Battery Fire Investigation Basics

The subrogation professional should be able to identify causes of lithium-ion battery fires, subrogation targets, and evaluate recovery potential for battery fires. The webinar will cover basic vernacular, common occurences of battery fires, and review the causation investigation. Attendees will be able to identify battery fire claims with refcovery potential, address common misconceptions, and proceed with investigations with a great knowledge of how best to approach battery fire claims. 

Zachary M. Jett is a partner with the subrogation team at Butler Weihmuller Katz Craig in their Charlotte, North Carolina office. Zach focuses his practice exclusively on large loss subrogation and recovery efforts. His litigation experiences are in catastrophic loss typically involving fire or explosion, construction defect, and products liability matters. His clients range from personal lines insurers to large commercial insurers, and frequently include self-insured commercial entities.  Zach is often involved shortly after a catastrophic loss occurs, and routinely coordinates multiparty investigations into the cause of a loss.  Zach has earned the trust and respect of his colleagues and adversaries alike for his collaborative approach to investigations. Zach has collected millions of dollars recovered for clients throughout the southeast either thru pre-litigation settlement negotiations, mediations, arbitrations, successful jury verdicts, or appellate review.  Zach is a frequent lecturer on subrogation topics at conferences nationwide, and often conducts in-house training or continuing education for insurance professionals. Zach is an active member of the National Association of Subrogation Professionals (NASP), having served as the conference co-chair in 2021, and held various positions on the conference committee. Zach graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2005 and received his Doctor of Jurisprudence, cum laude, from the Mississippi College School of Law in 2009. While in law school, he was a member of the Moot Court team. Zach is licensed to practice law in MS, NC, SC, TN, and VA.  Zach also holds the Certified Subrogation Recovery Professional (CSRP), a specialized designation for subrogation professionals. When he is not practicing law, Zach enjoys spending time with his two beautiful daughters, new dog, and wonderful wife. They enjoy outdoor activities at the beach or in the mountains, and love watching the Tar Heels or Panthers play. One day, he will find time to listen to a few of the records in his extensive vinyl collection.

Aaron Conrardy is a Senior Associate in Butler’s Dallas office practicing in subrogation and recovery. Aaron prides himself on not only hard work but also efficiency. Aaron has always worked hard, whether working on the family farm as a kid or making pizza in high school. After graduating from Texas A&M with a BA in philosophy, Aaron moved to Akron, Ohio, for law school. While attending Akron, he earned his JD and LLM in three years. Since law school, Aaron has been litigating cases throughout the state of Texas. Outside of work, Aaron spends his time with his wife, Hannah, as they try to keep up with their two daughters, Audrey and Charlotte.
