Legislative Affairs Committee Update – Colorado Senate Bills 216, 181 and US HR 1215

Legislatively, Colorado Senate Bill 216, which was recently introduced, seeks to extend the CFDCPA –which is set to sunset on July 1, 2017 – through September 2, 2028. The bill would also abolish the Collection Agency Board and set limits on collection of older debt. Finally, the term “debt” would be redefined to mean any obligation or alleged obligation of a consumer to pay money, whether or not the obligation has been reduced to judgment.
